Topic Questions

Should college athletes get paid? Does being labeled "amateur" have an affect on whether or not college athletes get paid? Can college athletics be considered a full-time job? Do college players produce as much money as the pros, considering how many fans buy apparel and tickets to watch? How much would the players make?

Topic Proposal

Whether or not college athletes should get paid This has been a very controversial topic as of recently. Based on what I have heard around, it seems to be a pretty even split between whether or not college athletes should be paid. Thus, I believe this topic is suitable for this writing assignment. Two research questions: Are college athletics, while balancing schoolwork, equivalent to a full time job? Should college athletes get paid? I will send out a survey into my fraternities group chat with the questions. Gather all responses, add them up, and split them accordingly. Then, I will analyze the data thoroughly, as well as provide my opinion on the topic.

Commercial analysis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc4QdfatdVM The old spice commercials include ethos, pathos, and logos equally the same. The ad makes the audience, primarily men, believe that if they use old spice, they can look like Terry Crews as well. This appeals to the ethos part of the ad where men desire to look like Terry Crews. This ad also uses logos throughout. When Terry Crews flies through a wall, on a jet ski, he says that he can travel through commercials. The ad starts out as Bounce Dryer Bars, then Terry Crews invades the commercial. This leads the audience t\into believing that if a product can travel through commercials, then it's worth buying. Lastly, this commercial uses logos. In the ad, there are explosions and yelling that grab the audience's attention emotionally. Throughout the ad, Terry Crews keeps the audience hooked through his constant yelling about how much power old spice evokes.
https://www.hg.org/legal_articles.asp This page provides a wide source of articles that explain situations, dealing with law, in today's society. I will use this as one of my broad sources that I will be able to use as many smaller sources. My interview will be with a lawyer in divorce law, so my main focus will be around divorce law. I will use the various sources to find more specific articles to divorce law. https://www.hg.org/legal-articles/giving-children-custody-of-a-house-after-divorce-48137 This source deals specifically with divorce/family law and the children in the case, which is what my interviewee deals with and what I will pursue. I will use this to specify what the topic of the interview is and what I want to be involved in. This source really goes in depth as to what divorce/family law primarily deals with in each case. In my interviewees case, he deals with clients' children and who gets custody over their children. http://www.levinfamilylaw.com ...

Writing assignment #1

This assignment is an exercise to help understand the type of writing we will be introduced to in our future career field. In doing so, we will be conducting an interview and writing an analysis on the information collected throughout the interview. From this interview, we are opened up to a different way of speaking and writing. This will allow us to prepare for future interviews and other situations involving this particular writing and speaking. Writing assignment #1 will allow us to explore our interested career field a little more and will give us practice at real world experiences. 1. Why would we use non-academic sources? 2. Is there a specific length that the interview has to be? 3. What type of questions should I be asking in the interview?
